I purchased these guys as red headed tapajos. I grew them out from 1" fry. They do not look like tapajos to me. What do I have?

Thanks

My guess is Altifrons. Definitely not red head tapajos.

Altifrons...hmmmmmmm. :irked: I paid a pretty penny for these. How big do they get? I had a 125 gallon set aside for these guys. Will (6) altifrons do well in a 125 gallon tank (6ft)?

No, they get about 9" max and yes-that's what they are (Altifrons). You can't really go wrong with them, they're awesome Geos, get along reasonably well and easy to find tankmates for because they mind their own business. Real pretty in the light with their colored highlights. I miss mine, should've kept them.

Altifrons can get up to 12". I have a 9 1/2" male that is still growing. They should do fine in a 125. You may have occasional spats, and bullying between them, but nothing too serious. Usually you will get one dominant male(alpha male) who will run the whole group, and most of the time will be the most attractive.

What size/age do they really color up?

I have a few smaller altifrons that are about 6", and they have yet to color up like my big guys. They look great, but you see more shine than color at this size/age. I would say they really start getting their true beauty at 7"+.
