My mom has had this guy in her tank for a while. She got him from Petco, he was labeled as geophagus brasiliensis but that is obviously not what he is. What do you think he is? Thanks!

Awesome. Thank you! She has given him to me along with a geophagus brasiliensis. Will these two get along?
Hard to say. The brasiliensis is significantly more aggressive but not a psychopath by any means. I have iporangensis which are essentially a smaller version of brasiliensis and they couldn't care less about similarly sized rotkeil, ebjd or smaller heckelli but if I didn't come straight home after work Friday they would have killed my Nic.
I agree G. abalios. It wouldn't be the best combo with the brasiliensis. How big is the tank? Larger tanks are better so if there is agression the fish that gets picked on can escape.
Right now they are in a 75 while my 140 is being fixed. There are plenty of places to hide and they are still small(3-4"). So far I have not seen any aggression, but I just brought them home from my mom's today. If they don't get along I have other tanks they could go in. Thanks guys.
