That's how my 4 looked when little, need better shots of the anal fin to be sure but the red stripe on the dorsal, black facial stripe and spot are there.
 
Tiz a gymno balzani, i have one about that size and it looks identical.

I also have 2 Heckelli, they have a black spot on the front upper dorsal. also are not usually listed as geophagus as they are arcaras, but if you keep them with an avid sand sifter they'll sift, id imagine thats where the confusion comes in.

1st is of the balzani, looks to be pretty similar to yours

2nd is of the Heckelli, you can see the black spot on the upper dorsal and the light orange coloring on the fins. Along w/ a nice blue sheen in the light
