Just picked this up from a lfs yesterday and forgot what type of geo it is. Also what type of food does this geo like. Seems like he's not eating anything atm and it's almost a day since I got him. Do fish usually take about a day or two before they start eating? This fish is in my 240 gallon with 2 tiger Oscars, 6 tinfoil barbs, 2 flagtails, 3 geo saramins(forgot how you spell that type of geo name). Just wondering what type of geo this is and will he like what I am feeding all my fish atm. I feed all my fish nls pellets, flakes(for a good diet) and Hikari algae wafers for the flagtails. Thanks

Agreed. They prefer cooler temps (and ideally a cooler winter period for a couple of months, than some of your other fish.

And for the love of Geo get rid of that gravel and put some sand in there so they can do their thing!!! :nilly:

When I had my geos in my 55 gallon I did have sand. I loved how they would eat the sand and spit it out. Only thing with sand is that it was really messy. Since you all said they like cooler temperature. What temp would you recommend with the fish that I have? I have the temp right now set to 79. Remember I have 2 tiger Oscars, 3 geos, 2 flagtails and 6 tinfoil barbs. Also my new geo I mentioned. Thanks for the advice.

Your Gymnogeophagus balzani can take those high temps for a while, but at some point it will need temps in the low 70s or high 60s to be healthy, it comes from southern South America where temps are more like Georgia, or southern California.
I would personally house it in a separate tank without heater from your tropical fish, balzani is really not a tropical fish.
I do not keep mine with warm water cichlids, but with other cool water species from Uruguay such as Corydorus erhardti, Australoheros sp or other cool water Gymnogeophagus.
