Have you tested your water?
No
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
31-40%
If I do not change my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
Guys i am new at geophagos fish keeping they some time scratch at the bottom and they do nkt show white spot is that normal?
I do from 30 % to 40% water change every day or day and another day
Temp is 27.8c, drift wood, external filter, but no substrate is the act of scratching is a normal act due to the missing substrate?

It could be from the water changes. Would try changing ur water changes to weekly I’d that keeps ur water under control.

Is this act part of the nature if no substrate found
It could be from new water with change in the gh. Could also be seen in cichlids. If there’s no infection.
I feed them alot to help at growing fast so ineed more frequent water changes :(
Maybe adjust ur feeding and check ur water quality and see if what ur doing is working or can be reduced.

No if the Geophagus are flashing that's not natural and agree with kno4te kno4te about the water. If they are not fry I wouldn't personally feed them to much. Sticking to a consistent and proper water change schedule will help them grow. Keep Nitrates low as possible.

Geophagus litteraly means earth eater. They need a suitable substrate to sift through. Also most do not do well being overfed. Agree that if you are putting a harder water in that could cause the scratching.
