Im looking for anyone who has experience keeping crenicichla with geophagus... specifically lugubris types. I got two crenicichla sp. 'cobra' from TUIC on order, and i know they will be ok for time being (they are only 3-4") with my 2.5-4" geophagus as they cant fit anything their own size into their mouth...

how fast do lugubris pikes grow compared to geophagus? Ive heard that the pikes may bully the geos as they age, but only lugubris type ive had experience with was lenticulata and those were aggressive twords larger fish and didnt care about anything smaller than them (nor did they have any intrest in trying to eat them, as they wouldnt fit in their mouth)

experienced keepers needed!

While I have not had direct experience with the lugubris group, I have kept "belly crawler" and saxitilus with others of the tribe Geophagini.
I keep "belly crawlers" successfully with Guianacara, which would be a very similar combination to your idea, and of the tribe Geophagini.

and Crenicichla saxitilus with Gymnogeophagus

As long as the Geos are larger (more high bodied and bulky), in theory, it should work.

I'll give you my experience with pikes. Mine was mean as hell and would strike at everything in the tank for no reason. He would sneak up behind my jack Dempsey and bite him. Sneak up behind the convict and bite him. Did not care for size. He was eventually named "a-hole".

thanks for the replies.

thats great duanes, i hope that these will learn to ignore the geos since they will have "always been there" i know it depends on the individual fishes temperment but at the same time once can only hope for success as crenicichla and geophagus are some of the more interesting species out there!
