I've come to love my geophagus jurupari, Doing some homework to find out what his long term living situation needs to be like .. I can't believe there are so many different kinds! Mind. Blown.

So this is me asking for the crash course in all geos. What are the most colorful? Which are best kept together? What makes some more commonly favorable or more likely to be found in a tank?

Someone school me.

Sorry, no answers but I'm also very interested. Geophagus can look absolutely stunning, I'll have to check back in a bit. :)

I have a 150g with tapajos orange heads, winemilleri, altifrons, and satanoperca deamons all growing out. Lots of small gravel plants sand and drift wood they are very hungry little fish! They follow me when I walk by lol

Long term you will need a pretty big tank for jurupari. I'm temporarily housing a few adults for a friend and the big male is easily 10"+ long. I have them in a 5 foot 120 and they look cramped. I would say a 24" wide tank would be best.

Check out the media lounge for lets see your eartheaters, there are several species of eartheaters represented. Jurapari are a simple fish. Sand, drift wood, and clean water are all you need. Very peaceful and personable. Either keep singly or in groups of 5 or more.

as for colorful, that is subjective, but I find some of the Gymnogeophagus to look stunning. Personally I like steindachneri best, due to their behavior and personality, and that they can be kept with fish that are much more feisty, which doesn't work out with mixing most Satanoperca for example.
