Geophagus, Gymnogeophagus, and Satanoperca concerns

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1. They tend to uproot plants but itf you can find a way around that then you should be good.

2. I have never kept them with any of those species so I don't know. I have seen large adults kept with stuff like scombs and raphs in public aquaria.

3. Depending on the species they are usualy pretty common, stuff like S. leucostica are very common while S. lilith is extremely rare.

1) I have an satanoperca specific setup, I put vallisnerias supported for rocks and they have not uprooted my plants yet. My setup is 6 month along now.

Thank you for the helpful info.

Another thing, how should I go around planting the tank? Would they be prone to uprooting small plants that carpet the bottom of an aquarium?

Also, Halcon, mind sharing pics of your setup? :D

yes they would

I keep my Gymnogeophagus gymnogenys Rio Yerbalito in an unheated tank with plants, as long as there is a strong root system, well established deep within sand.

Can't speak to the type fish you mention, mine share the tank with a school of 10 white cloud mountain minnows
