Let's try this again... my last thread vanished :irked:

So peathenster said on my other thread that these little guys are not Red HeadTapajos... He also said that they look kind of like Altifrons...

So now it's a guessing game... anyone want to help with IDing these two?

sorry about the crappy pics, the only way to get clear pics with my camera is with the flash on

lol they seem to be doing some server maintenance. My last thread disappeared as well.

I made the comments because 1) they have spotty tails 2) the lateral spot is about the right size (very hard to tell tho) and 3) the body shape looks like the tapajos variant of G. altifrons. For fish this size it would be very difficult to make a definitive identification.

thanks,

I'm just happy to have more geos because I haven't seen any since I bought my larger geos over a year ago.

I guess I'll post more pics when they start coloring up to see what the geo people think.

My reply was also deleted, but anyway, I agree with Peter that the first ones look like G. altifrons, time will tell. The second pictures are G. abalios.

If you're looking for Orange Heads, the tail pattern is the easiest way to distinguish them at a small size (no spots), along with the presence of four transversal bars, that eventually differenciate into two paired bars. From a small size, it is also obvious that the head will turn orange. If in less favorable conditions (LFS, etc.), or before their head coloration comes in, their head can have a bronse look.

In Sue's thread, you can see Orange Heads grow from 2-4"

Where'd you get em! They look great! LOL why are the first set of pictures terrible and the 2nd set are all good?

i dont know... my camera sucks...sometimes..

the two little geos (when i took the pics of them) were in my 55 which has alot of DW so the water is kinda brown, while the bigger geos are in my 125...

also the little geos move almost always so the only way to get clear pics (and not the moving blurry pics) was to use flash...

the larger geos tend to stay still so i could use no flash and there wouldn't be any moving blurry pics.

oh and i got all my geos/satanoperca from tropical treasures.... it's kind of hit or miss though with them having eartheaters.
