Here.
Hello everyone,

I bought this Geo. as a surinamensis. I would like to get a positive ID as to what they actually are. I've been trying to track down that popular out of print geo. book, but to no avail.

Thanks guys~!

Best,
Jeff

PS - these pictures are REALLY high resolution. feel free to click on them for a better view!

I'd say G. abalios cuz of the larger lateral spot but its hard to tell when they are young so it could be G. altifrons. If you want to be sure post more pics once they get to the 4-5" mark.

I also say abalios

I wont disagree. I was torn. Its very difficult to tell at this size, but lets just say its one or the other :) both are awesome fish.

^ agreed. I say abalios because although a bit faded in the photo the mid lateral spot looks large like abalios. They also have more of an abalios body shape. But like you said, it's hard to tell at thqat size. I also lean a bit more to abalios because they are almost always sold as surinamensis.

thats true too, abalios are often labeled as that, but altifrons midlateral spot fades which pointed me towards altifrons ;). i guess time will tell.
