i got these a few months back as geophagus surinamensis, i understand that there are many variants and i would like to get your guys input. I only have 6 of them. Im hoping my new landlord allows my 80 to be kept so I can bring these guys home. I was gonna originally going to sell them, but they are too lovely thanks. They are most likely Geophagus dicrozoster. The main identifying features are the dark preopercular marking and the vertical bars with the "Y" showing up in the 4/5 bars. The only other geo that I'm aware of with the dark preopercular marking is Geophagus brachybranchus which yours is not. Here are pics of both species in my tanks. They are a very nice species of geo to obtain. Congrats!

Dicrozoster, They tend to be the most common species mis labelled as Surinamensis. As above the tell tale is the 4th and 5th stress bars meeting in a y shape.
