I have been curious about one of my geos purchased as a group of 5 tapajos fry, I lost one, 3 are obvious tapajos, the 4th one has similar vertical bars, but very different coloration and shape of the dorsal fin. I did not witness spawning, but watched two of the tapajos guarding eggs. Interesting because I was thinking the 4th fish might be a female. Maybe a different species? pictures aren't good but best I can do with this camera. one of the tapajos and the other unsure species.

thanks for any help.

thanks, I had assumed it was a tapajo varient but Im still learning a lot about Geophagus.
75 gal. with 2 Surinamensis, 4 tapajos, 3 blue rams, 9 gold tetras, and 1 flame red gourami, and 1 pleco

The fish pictured are both G. sp. Tapajos. Post pictures of your surinamensis -- I'll bet money that they're actually altifrons.
