geophagus jurupari

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i havent owned one...i do own geophagus though. jurupari are very beautiful! not to say firemouths are not, but everyones aware of firemouths. get something different! jurupari!

i have owned a geophagus jurupari and yes i would suggest it over a firemouth.

How about we split it down the middle and call it a Geophagine;).

I suppose whether it's a good idea to suggest one over the other depends on how much room you have for it . These guys are fairly socialble and do best in groups of say 5 or more. Couple that with the fact that they get larger than Firemouths (around 10") . Water requirements are different and they really need excellent water quality or they will suffer from HITH in a heartbeat. If your not opposed to large tanks and a lot of maintenance, then I'd recomend them. If not then I'd go firemouth.

.. or even an Eartheater ;)

Pretty much what thatcichlidguy has stated, 4+, sand substrate with quality water. Wouldn't suggest these fish for beginners or people not sure it's what they want as you need to keep them quite particularly.

I have 2 satanoperca jurupari, but they are kinda hard to find here in sweden I would love to have some more of them.
