There seems to be a lot of differing opinions on the adult size of the Geophagus Megasema, I did score with a group of 12 juvis (2-2.5") and am looking for any direction/knowledge that I can absorb on this Geo, I am ready to take on it's adult size be it large or small, so I am not "not prepared" and have only heard the standard "Non aggressive" Geo mark when people are describing this fish...

Can you folks help me?

Thank you in advance~

Congrats on the pick up! They are beautiful fish... Never had them myself so no personal experience, but I've read that they get to about 7". Not sure about aggressiveness level.....

From the pictures I've seen of wild fish, they look 6-7" TL, but that's just an estimate in relation to the persons hand holding the fish. In captivity you could plan on them growing a little larger than that. I'd be interested to see pictures of the juveniles, this species does not turn up much and is usually something else.

Here is one shot that shows the Yellow Highlights starting to show.....

Ill get some more....

Thanks for the Kudos, Opinons? True Megasema? I think so, plus the seller is very reliable.....

Did you request a picture of the parents before you bought them? Most Geophagus look like that as youngsters. I am really skeptical but I do hope they prove to be megasema.

Did not request a pic of the Parents, I prob could get one, may take some doing, as the seller is not cp freindly, and his wife or son does all the email and questions except in person, and Michigan is not in the cards, let me do some digging, ill be in Toledo next week and will have my evenings free to mess around on the CPU....Trying to get a better profile shot, took about 100 tonight, the yellow really does not come thru on the pics as it does when you see it, hoping that DaveB will come by sometime soon to validate, as they are beautys, nothing like the Geo juvis I have had before. and I have had my share of Juvis....Ill try again tomorrow after the easter crowd leaves, and I am finished packing. I am really hoping myself as well, he is a very respected seller, never ever have I had a cross word, when you order 10, you get 12, when you order 5, you get 6 and sometimes 7, and the sizes unlike some, are underestimated. Here's my fingers crossed! Rare but not impossible!
