Geophagus pellegrini

I moved two males from a breeding group into this tank to see if the zebrina would tolerate them. So far so good. I'll probably moved the rest of the group in as well to stop them from breeding.

OMG, I want that pike lol what a stunner! What did you mean by "moving the rest of the group to stop them from breeding''? Geos won't spawn unless the pair have their own tank or did you mean something else??

I think they may feel threatened by the pike enough that they'd stop breeding. The males definitely notice the pike and try to be careful, lol. The whole breeding thing really takes a toll on females, not eating for 3 weeks at a time. I have some juvies from this group growing out already.

this is the one they call "Red-headed Atabapo"? or is that a different species? Can't these pikes protrude their jaws like Parachromis and swallow stuff WAY bigger than you'd expect? I'm surprised you're not worried about him eating the smaller Geos.....my little 4" Pike was seconds away from swallowing my little 3" Senegalensis ....I was literally typing post next to my tank and had to stop typing and net the Poly up and put him in a breeder net to save his *ss....like, a lightbulb went off in my head and I was like "That's stalking behavior", but this pike was not much bigger, just thicker mainly.

It's a C. zebrina, which tends to me mellower than most pikes this size. It didn't mess with the G. mirabillis male so I was hopefully that it'd leave the G. pellegrini alone too.
