I would love to find some G. pelligrini, right now they are at the top of my wish list.

Are these fish ever available? I try to check TUIC's and The Wet Spot's stock lists regularly, but have yet to find any.

If you keep G. pellegrini, please post your experiences and where you got them.

Thanks for any replies!

i have a group of them i got my originals about 5 years ago from rapps, my group now consists of females i spawned from the group i had from rapps, more females came from american cichlids and more females and my males came from gage at cichlid connection, the pellegrini the fish junky is selling are steindachneri...... i have my group in a 100 gallon with wild angels.......my fish are 5-7"

Try Dan Ye Jennings at Americancichlids.net. She had pelligrini on her list for a while.
They do have them, thanks!

"the fish junky" in the vendors section is advertising some. Here's a link. It says april but when I pm'ed him about may he said he pretty much has the same stock. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406567
The Fish Junky's prices are much more reasonable, but...

Thanks for the heads up. I would hate to spend $25 apiece plus shipping from NJ for steindachneri - I have 130+ growing out in my garage right now.
They have wild Colombian Pellegrini at American Cichlids, but at $90-$110 each I may have to wait a bit. It is definitely a species I would like to raise, but I don't think I can afford a group of them at the moment. Thanks for the information on your group.

This is what "the fish junky" is advertising in the vendors section straight from his page. I thought it looked pellegrini to me but im no expert. So i posted so you can see for yourself.

I, too, am far from being an expert - quite the opposite, as I've never seen a pellegrini in real life.

The photos look more like steindachneri to me. The only reference I have is Weidner's Eartheater book, but the photos they show don't have the blue spangling and the head is completely red/orange. He also mentions that pellegrini have a number of dark spots on their flanks (not visible in The Fish Junky's photos). This is straight from the book:

"The upper head profile is not as steep as in 'G.' steindachneri and even adult males develop only a vestige of a hump which does not differ from the body in color. If the light is right then the lips may appear bluish."

Again, I am definitely not the person to give a positive ID, but from what I've read I tend to think that the photos are of G. steindachneri, not G. pellegrini. This is unfortunate, because I really want some of these, but both the Cichlid Connection and American Cichlids have them priced from $90 to $125 each, too steep for my budget at the moment :irked: (we have a new six-day-old baby girl that has taken a big bite out of my fish money :D).

Congrats Dude!!!

Recently I've seen pelligrini pop up all over the place but I've had my reservations since they come from a gnarly area in Colombia. Though I'm pretty confident with most of my Geo ID, pelligrini is not one I've had much experience with so I'm not going to try.

I have a breeding group right now(fry growing out as we speak)
This is was my top male(just got killed recently)had to move my chocolates recently to move there tank and the male killed my pellegrinni male. But the other male has stepped up.

I have been to fish junkies house personally, and he indeed had pellegrinni the last time i was there,so unless you know for sure please dont throw accusations, especcially since as much talk as you do about having pellegrinni. You never show proof.Every time i or someone else post about pellegrinni you always show up and talk about your group but never post pics(but always tell me to post pics so people dont get confussed)well i post pics all the time and if you search my thread or anyone else's u never do. So if you have the group you say you have and the spawn like you say they do" PUT UP OR SHUT UP".

And to the op that started this thread,I have fry promised to a few members on here but i have plenty to go around ,if you wait another month or so when they are ready i would be glad to sell you some(mfk member price 6 for $100) i also have a female holding as we speak so plenty more to come.I do have some one to ship or if anyone is interested they can come and pick up.
