i have a group of young eartheaters, and they are growing out nicely, but i just could not find information anywhere as far as stomach contents of wild specimens. i had been feeding a very high protein diet, but now i have switched precautionarily to a vegetable based diet, and feeding much more. hoping for some information. thanks.

I've been feeding my geophagus red hump standard sinking pellets for about 7 months now and he seems fine, despite the fact that I'm pretty sure he hasn't grown an inch in that whole time. He's still like maybe 3 inches, the same size as when I got him.

Mine do fine on hikari sinking pellets, they also enjoy spirunila as a treat

I have been feeding my geo's Omega One veggie rounds. They love them. I also fed them lance fish, hikari gold, and bloodworms. But back to veggie rounds..the main ingredient is whole kelp, spirulina, salmon, halibut....they are listed as the main ingredients. Seems to me like it cant be bad.

3/4" to first spawn took a little under 10 months with this diet...

mmm good, i didnt even think about market shrimp lol i havent fed market shrimp since i had my bichirs and cats :(
i was feeding kens growth pellets, large amounts of protein, and large amounts of fat, good for growing juvie fish. but i have been hearing more and more cases of bloat among sa/ca cichlids lately, so i have recently switched to feeding very large amounts of spriluna pellets, spriluna flakes, and a general cichlid pellet. what do you guys think about this?

The more veggies the better and I always try and avoid fatty foods if I can help it.. You may have an easier time looking for gut analysis of Satanoperca. If I remember correct it was easier to find. obviously not the same species but similar behaviors justify similar diet IMO. Market shrimp a few days a week = fast growth but makes veggie diet the rest of the week even more important. They need to be chopped up really well. I have a little machine thing that dices it up good. They are 100% back on sinking pellets now FYI..

This is a good thread and i hope more chime in. I too think that you can give your Geo's too much protein. I honestly think the NLS Thera pellets had something to do with loosing my Gymno's and although i can't prove it I tend to give them more flake food than i used to just because i am scared of NLS now. I'm sure some other eposide caused me to loose my gymnos but i can't help but to wonder about this food now.
