Okay well my pair of Araguaia Orange Heads were showing huge signs of breeding and had their tubes hanging out.

2 days later she layed around 250-300 odd eggs on a flat smooth piece of rock.

around 3 days later she picked them up in her mouth

day later the male took his turn with them in his mouth

then she took them back in her mouth the next day.

then i moved her onto a diy plastic container with mesh sides which hangs in the tank by 2 massive clips . its 30cm high by 28cm wide by 28cm long and there was a airstone coming through the base for even more water circulation than the tank filters.

about 5 days later she spat the babies , i came home to 200-300 free swimming fry.

its been 3 days and i have been feeding them baby brine shrimp (frozen)
i hope they have been eating it.

i have moved them into a 2ft tank with 2 cycled sponge filters and a heater.
which in a month they will be moved into their 4ft growout. (which has a cannister and a sponge.

Is there anytihng i can do for a better chance of them eating the food?
what else (food ) is small enough?
they are roughly 3.5-4.5 mm long.

any tips from other geo breeders?
Thanks.

P.s i have no light in there tank as it is infront of a window that has a blind which light seeps through during the day. (there tanak is top of 3 teir rack)

3 days after taking the 96w t5 HO light off they were courting :)

and no there is no point showing pics of 3-4mm fry unless u caan send me your DSLR camera for free:naughty::naughty:\

:D

I use "fry food" that I purchased at a local place that makes it themselves but if I were you I'd grind up some flake as small as I could get it. You could even use some spriluna powder if you can find it. Usually when people say "feed baby brine shrimp" they mean brine you've hatched yourself not frozen brine.

Congrats on the fry!!!

Sound like everything is good Johnny. AS far as food for them, any fry food you can find at a LFS or online will do and like camphilophus mentioned about crushing flakes or growing your own brine. The frozen baby brine shrimp will work but some good fresh grown lives ones will really help them grow quick:)

Thanks mate,
Yeah ill have a look for some fry food.
probably wont grow my own brine considering its about $80 for 400g of eggs plus the hatcher and with no experience haha.
How long does it take them to get to 1 inch? thanks.

What!!!? I guarantee you can get it for under $20 shipped to your house even in Australia. Mine cost $6 from bigals and it came with eggs. My LFS sells 3 packets for about $4-5.
