After a trial run last month, my Geophagus Brasiliensis pair have successfully bred. About a week ago, they laid eggs (in a much more secure and defendable location than last time) and within days, the eggs were vibrating like jumping beans. Yesterday, the spawn began swimming within their shelter and today, the proud parents took them about for a swim around the neighborhood.
Thus far, the parents have their fins full defending the fry from three bala sharks, a rainbow shark and a senegal bichir. My green severum, synodontis angelicus and clown pleco seem less interested for now. But I am not sanguine on the continued ability of the parents to protect the brood.
I had set up a spare 10g with cycled water from this tank in anticipation and today syphoned about 50 fry into it.
This is my first successful breeding with Geophagus Brasiliensis. Do anyone know how fast they grow? Any hints on proper car of the fry would be appreciated.
