The store I bought them from is really good about their fish normaly. I have been looking and fiund that they may be somthing else. The importer of their fish says they were wild cought and that they are geophagus surinamensis. I paied almost 25$ each for the 4 inchers. Is that fair ? Ill post picks tonight

See if you can find out where they were brought in from, might help with the ID as well as the pics. G. surinamensis is from an area that is not collected commerically (though some European aquarists have made trips to collect them), so the odds of them being Suri's are pretty low. But most fish in the genius are called such by the collectors/importers so I wouldn't worry too much if your LFS got it wrong this time, they are simply selling them as the name they came in under.

Ok. I will when I get home. I'm not sure on where they were collected from but they said that they only get them once or twice a year. From other pics I have seen of the juvie suris they look like they may be legit. If they are is 25$ a peice at 3-4 in fair ?

Depends on which species they actually are. At that price it would range from a decent deal to a steal, just depending what they are.

Altifrons are by far the most commonly imported Geo. They are almost always sold as surinamensis.

+1. All the pet stores in my area that carry "surinamensis" are actually selling altifrons. They are still very nice geos. They are active and large-growing so make sure you have an adequately sized tank.

Sometimes you'll also find G. abalios sold as surinamensis. A collection location and pictures would probably be the best way to narrow it down.
