Hey all,

My 6x group of g. Svenis are growing quite well and are at about 4-4.5" now. I have moved the group to a 54gal corner tank with the hope that, as they mature, ill start to see some pairing.

Being that this is my first time trying my hand in breeding geophagus sp. Can anyone give me some info on what i should be doing to accomodate this behavior? And any other tips or tricks yoh may have for me.

Ill also attach some photos to show ya what im workin with. The tank has been scaped and is no longer the same as the pictures i will be posting. Just wanted to show the specimens i plan to breed.

Thanks all!

I've bred other geos, not sveni yet. I've had sveni, now growing out a second group, this group I'll breed if I get a pair.

So I haven't specifically bred sveni, but reports (and video) I've seen are pretty typical, they'll do the 'circle dance', some flaring, tail slapping, or lip locking. Meanwhile they select and prepare an area they like, cleaning off a rock or making a nest by clearing sand from the bottom glass.

I'm not quick to critique tank size, but do you plan that as their permanent tank?

Thank you for your reply, i figured that would be the jist of it. Same as many other geophagus sp. breeding behavior.

As to the tank, the 54corner is being used strictly as a "honeymoon tank". As soon as i spot a pair i will remove the other 4 and return them to their original home in one of my 3x 125gal tanks.

I have bred sveni and have some fry growing now. I can confirm it’s similar to other geos. Mine laid on a flat rock. After the pair guarded them for a couple days, the female picked up the eggs and continued to mouthbrood.

Thanks to you both for replying.

I have some good news, after only 5 days in the "honeymoon/spawn tank" we have an offical pair out of the 6! Ive outfitted the tank with 2 peices of slate and will keep tabs on their progress. Very happy and will start a new thread to chronicle my experience breeding g. Sveni.

Thanks once more!
