Geophagus Sveni spawn question

Ive had my 3x sveni pairs spawn a few times, with no success yet. Theyre still figuring it out, and thats fine.

But i just had a pair lay and it seems like the female scooped the eggs right up into her mouth, off of the slate, right after laying and i presume fertilization. The eggs that are still on the slate look to be fertilized, and she looks to be holding eggs; that typical, closed mouth mouthbrooder...mouth. You know what im saying.

If anyone has any input, im all ears

I wait 4-5 days after the female mouthbroods. Then I strip the fry and put them in a tumbler set to low. After they’ve absorbed their egg sacks and are eating well, they go into their own tank

Thats what i do normally, somtimea ill let young paira carry a few spawns to get the hang of things.

But this time the pair laid and immediately the female scooped up the eggs that were stuck to the slate. Shes still carrying them, it would appear. I dont see this succeeding long term but it is curipus. I would imagine it was a stress response in one way or another.

That is odd. Would be curious to see if the eggs hatched
