Well this is kind of a blury picture but about two weeks ago i purchased four geophagus surinamensis, well one passed away and was left with three, well went to the LFS today and found myself three more, not exactly sure if the new three are surinims, but they fit right in with the older Geo's and look amazing.. IMO Geophagus are some of the most gorgeous freshwater fish you can find!!!!

There probably aren't any true G. surinamensis in the tank. This is a blanket name used by a lot of LFS that carry geos, but they are often G. abalios or G. altifrons. Supposedly, G. surinamensis are actually rare in the hobby.

Either way, abalios and altifrons both turn into large, gorgeous geos from the pictures I've seen. Enjoy them!

+1

Though the two that are typically what you get are really pretty too...

Here's an example of an Abalios at a LFS

The first three i got were not from my LFS, special ordered them, they are surinamensis, the other three that i just picked up where not labeled surinamensis, they had some weird name but when i put them in my tank with the others they looked exactly alike, they are Geo's just not exactly sure on which kind. will try to get better pics once they get there color back and are a little more settled in.
