I bought two geophagus tapajos about a month ago. These were the last two for sale in my lfs and are about 2-4 inches. Woke up today to one geophagus guarding eggs but the other on the other side of the tank. Do female geophagus lay eggs even without a partner?

Female cichlids will sometimes lay eggs when solo, but in some cases the female will keep male away.

They will hatch in her mouth, she might hold on to them until she can lay them somewhere as little wigglers.

Oh okay. The eggs got layed pretty randomly. When I first got them their fins were beat up so I couldn't get an idea of their sex. After about 2 weeks one started coloring up and growing longer fins so I thought i was thinking it was a male and since the two of them seem to always fight I thought they were both males. At least now I know that one's a female so hopefully the other is a male and these eggs are fertile.
