Dear All,

Anyone here familiar with tapajos? I've been keeping red heads for the past 2 years. Need some opinion on companionship for this guy. Kindly drop me a line here.

Thanks

whatcha need to know?

1-Will this fish attack corys & plecos.
2-I'm keeping this guy in a rather small tank (which looks more like a condo than a house) bout 22gal. How many more can I keep?

They won't attack the plecos or corys.

If the other fish are in the 22 gal too, then you need another tank for your geo, atleast 30 gal or larger for ONE fish. Bigger is ALWAYS better! Would you like to live in a mobile home or a mansion?!?!?!

in a tank that small you can't keep any...if you want something resembling a geo in some way for a tank that small go for bolivian rams

No, your Red Head Tapajos would not attack cories or plecos.

But given the small volume of water in your tank (it would be a 1.5 feet cube? or equivalent), it is advisable to ensure the filtration is adequate to accomodate more fishes other than the RHT.

Other than that, I don't see a problem. I have kept RHT, many of them in a 6 feet tank. They are not aggressive cichlids except during breeding.

Do u have sand for them to blow? they love blowing sand through their gills!

Suppose the tank is big enough (realistically) - can you keep a group of Tapajos? i.e., do they school like juruparis?

Of course you can keep a group of them if the tank is big enough:confused:

ummmm Juruparis don't "school". They like the company of conspecifics but they do not school. They will establish territories to an extent. Schooling fish are like most tetras and never have an established territory in an aquarium. Never seen a "school" of Juruparis before.

Most eartheaters do not school, they enjoy one anothers company to an extent, will develop a pecking order, will swim together on occasion, but even breeding pairs and colonies will be off doing their own thing most of the time. Perhaps in an extremely large aquarium where large numbers of multiple species are present they would show different activity, but from my aquarium observations they don't.

I wouldn't keep even a single Orange Head in a 22gal aquarium, that's tiny.

well that's good to know... I'm contemplating what type of eartheaters to add to my 220g. One option is to expand my juruparis population (currently two) because I thought they school......imagine a bunch of them sifting sand together....

would tapajos and juruparis get along? like 3 each in a 220g?

SORRY chochiss - I don't mean to distract..
