So i picked up my flagtail yesterday after ordering it from my LFS a few weeks ago. When i got in the car my 5 year old little boy wanted to know why it had taken so long to come and where it had come from. I explained to him and he said "right then, we'll call him george". Puzzled i asked him why he wanted to call him george and quick as a flash he replied "george of the jungle!" So george the flagtail prochilodus it is.

That's cute.

Yeah, his colours are a bit washed out at the minute though, he looks nothing like the stunner that i'm hoping he will become. Is this common with flags, you ever kept any?

Give it time and it should show out for you after it settles in.I have kept them in the past.

How big is it?
They don't have the bold coloration when they are small, but in your case it could just be due to stress

He's about 4". He's happy enough, feeding well, the other fish have accepted him, no issues at all, his scales are perfect, no split fins or anything. It's just the colour. Maybe i'm just impatient, i want that colour NOW!!! Haha.

At 4", it should have some nice coloring. I'm sure once its well acclimated, the colors will come in.
This was mine at about 4"

That top photo is pretty much what mine looks like. The pelvic fins have a hint of red, like yours did, and very very pale red, almost yellowish on the tail, like yours. The bottom photo is obviously what i want, deep reds and oranges, so maybe a little more time and he'll be a stunner like yours.
