georgia aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
has anyone here ever been to the georgia aquarium or other large aquariums?
I’ve been to the Georgia aquarium. Been a few years, but holy crap those whale sharks were awesome!
Does the living seas at Epcot count? I’ve been there a lot.
And the other most prominent one for me is New Jersey’s adventure aquarium. Lots of cool stuff there (not rare for a fish keeper; but nonetheless great to see).
I think I’ve been to the Baltimore one but that was long ago.

I have not been to the new Georgia aquarium in Atlanta. I have been to the New England Aq (Boston), National (?) Aq (Baltimore), Newport Aq (Newport KY), Sydney Aq (Australia), Monterey Aq (Monterey).
The one I really want to go to is the Aq in Chattanooga TN, it is supposed to be the best freshwater aquarium in the US.

Biggest one I've been to is the Vancouver Aquarium. I'd love to do a tour of the US and checkout all the big ones.

Been to atlanta.....other than the whale shark exhibit wasn't really impressed....freshwater was ok ..... but even getting to see the whale shark pool from top view was cool

what kind of factory made the huge glass panel of the main aquarium at the georgia aquarium?
I’ve never thought of that. I would think stuff like that is constructed on site but I have no idea.

I have been to the New Port (KY) ,Baltimore, Georgia, Boston, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Chicago. In my opinion the one in Georgia is the best.

Those panels are acrylic. I work in plastics so I am reasonably familiar with the manufacturing process for acrylic sheets. If you are familiar with the US show, "how it's made" one of the shows went into detail of how aquarium panels are made. It's well worth a watch if you can find it, it shouldn't be that difficult as they are always repeating them.

The programme shows relatively thin panels, compared to the sizes required for public aquariums. To achieve the monster panels which can be up to half a metre thick they have to glue several large thinner sheets together. It's an extremely complex and time consuming process.

I believe the largest, thickest multi-layered sheet ever manufactured was in China. It is in a huge aquarium in a shopping mall in Guangzhou.

Now that would add to the shopping experience wouldn't it, lol.
