So as some of you know i got some "orange head" tapajos a week or so ago, and i have been giving them a small dose of koi pills, and the male has put on ½" in just this week.

Am i dosing too much? Will they become ugly from growing them too fast?

I have stopped feeding them the growth pills and leave this food for the big guys, untill i can be sure it won't damage the fish in any way.

So far the color has intensified alot, and they are showin a deep green base color and spangling, and theire red heads have become redder.

It's hard to capture the details with my cellphone camera, but here are the best shots i could get.

Before and after shots:

Patience is a virtue. High protein diets will lead to larger fish faster, but it can also bring upon growth related issues such as arched backs etc. The colours come from temperament more so than diet quality - Orange Heads can be quite timid.

I also doubt 1/2" in a week because of the food, if it's even an accurate measurement. On a high quality diet in good conditions they'll grow about 1/2" a month as sub-adults at the very best.

Yes, i completely agree with you, that the temeperament is the deciding factor in a fishes coloration, but nothing has changed for them really, since theire only tank mates have been 4x loaches at 1-2".
Well, i guess the new sand could have impacted theire comfortability.

But in other words, you are telling me to stay far away from this "holy****omg" food?

It's only a guesstimate, but a very reasonable one i would think.
I have honestly sat and stared at these fish for hours on end since i got them, and you easely tell a real visible difference in the length of the male, which i am guessing to be about ½". Not so much the runt and the female
