Hey all.

I want to drop a German Blue into my gf's tank, to try to keep fry down. (She is being overrun). However, I am a little concerned about the current stocking list. Will a ram be fine with these guys?

She has a 35? gallon hex.

She has a couple Juli cory's, a chinese algae eater, a bristlenosed pleco, bunch of live bearers (Guppies, platy's, and mollies). She has snails which we are trying to get rid of, so add a loach to that mix. (probably a khuli).

Here is the 3 guys I am worried about: She has 3 ghost shrimp, which she LOVES. Will they be eaten?

Thanks,

Bobby

I imagine the ghost shrimp to be ok, Rams are pretty dainty fish, but personally i dont think they'll be up to the task of hunting down the fry.

As for the snails, a khulli wont really do much damage. (everyones soon going to find this is a topic close to my heart lol)

Its only really the "botia" loaches that will readily eat snails.

Options include the pygmy chain loach, the yoyo (infact any of the banded botia loaches) clowns, etc etc.

Personally, id go for the pygmy chain loaches, in a group of 5+, but their difficult to get hold of as their near extinction in the wild, and difficult to breed in captivity, but try your luck.

yoyos are pretty aggro fish, and clowns get too big, so unless your a real loach fanatic, i'd stay clear of those two.

Personally, in your tank, id go for some barbs or danios to polish off those pesky fry, be far more efficient then a ram.

(failing that, just drop them into your local fish store and trade them in for food every couple of months.)

Yes most likely, and then if they are not they will be picked on. But you could add the ram. Usually if the parents can't catch the fry neither can other fish.
