My Rams spawed for the first time Monday night. By Tuesday night all the eggs were gone.

Only the male was guarding the spawn and he didn't do a very good job, let the discus and dwarf gouramis eat their fill. He did push snails off the rock, though.

This was their first spawn and they are young. Will they get better at it in time, after a few more spawns work everyting out?

your other fish will always want to eat the eggs. a ram is hardly going to stop discus from chowing.

or even the dwarf gouramis... rams IMO just aren't big enough to protect fry from anything bigger then themselves. you might want to conside a 10-20gal with just the pair and smaller live plants, and maybe some wood :) if you get a 20long you could do 2-3pairs, thats always interesting with rams. as for tankmates i would go with some dwarf rainbows, and neons/cardinals maybe a clown pleco, or some otto's. gl :)

pleco would be very happy to eat fish eggs, and wouldnt put it past ottos either

I learned this the hard way too. My Bloodfin Tetras ate my eggs. Your Rams should be alone if you want to breed them.
