Hi,

I have 3 GBS (1 male, 2 female (pink reddish on belly) . The male keep chasing both of them, sometimes the female will fight among each other. And the male always nipping both of them , chasing them and also nip my other fish. I have 40 gal , many hiding spots.

i tried separate the male to another tank, and the 2 females get along peacefully without facing off and nipping each other. Should i just return the male to my LFS ? I am not looking to breed them , just want them stay happy in my fish tank without fighting all day long.

Any advice. thanks

Even without the male you still may have spats now and then because one will dominate the other it just won't be intense .

If your goal is just happy living, Yes I would return the male if he is causing problems. Some cichlids are just mean, even the "peaceful" species can have an exceptionally aggressive individual

Yes, they sometimes chase each other. but since they have their own hiding spot , they seems calmer and very very seldom chasing and nipping each other.

I tried add back the male GBS, and they start fighting so intense again. should i just leave them be ?

Personally I would and suggest adding another female. When I had GBR's yes they chased and flared up at each other but didn't have any damage that I got concerned about. Typical cichlid behavior ☺

So 1 male, 3 female? The female will start a fight haha
