Right now my 70gl is occupied till spring. I'm thinking ahead on what I'd like to add once it's available again.

It's a weird size. Only 36in long, 25in tall, 18in wide. So smaller fish are obviously the only way to go. The only fish that will possibly be staying in the tank is 4 giant danios.
I dont really care to have more breeding cichlids, but I read that you need to keep more then one for them to have the best coloring. Is that true?
And if so how many would be recommended?
And what other tankmates would be suitable in a tank with these dimensions?

The giant danios might not appreciate the higher temps that the blue rams require to stay healthy. Bolivian rams would be a better choice if you intend on keeping the danios.

Heat loving tetras that would mix well with the blue rams would include cardinals, rummynose, and green neons.

True.
I can move them though, since I'm mostly interested in the German and not Bolivian.
