Not all German Red is as red as yours. They are line bred from Ngara peacock and only reach medium size and medium aggressiveness

I agree with the color variation. I also find they look more colorful in pictures than in person. The flash or other photographic lighting helps.

Forsure...but I can insure you that mine is this red. The store he came from has a more mature male in their display tank that is even deeper red (Ferrari red) then mine. Their male came from the same supplier about a year before. These line breeds are just getting better.

I find that white substrate, black backround and pink fluorescent bulbs bring out the fishes best natural colours. Many people keeping freshwater fish are using regular daylight bulbs which will actually bleach out the colour.
