So, in my 125 gallon, I have a group of 6 red head geos, as well as 2 winemilleri. They are all fairly young still, all 3.5" or less. About 4 weeks ago, I started noticing the larger, more dominant male getting friendly with a smaller geo, what I presumed was his "girlfriend". So, I was expecting this and it didn't take long, but the pair of red heads are now guarding their first spawn of eggs and doing a mighty fine job of it.

This is my first run at having fish attempt to breed in my tank, as I don't typically keep multiples of the same species. So, I obviously know there is very little chance of survival, but for future spawns I don't want to throw anything off, today is water change day, should I go about the normal routine or should I wait and let this pan out?

I haven't tested water in a couple days, but I would expect my nitrates are sitting around 10-20ppm, as they typically are on this day. I usually change about 35-40% of the tank volume weekly.

EDIT: Please excuse the title, autocorrect jacked it up. Was supposed to say "Geos" not "Gets"

i always just did my maintenance routine like normal, the first couple spawns my geos laid didnt pan out anyway. as long as you arent putting the hose right in their nest site they shouldnt get too weird about a water change

I agree water quality is even more crucial when it comes to fry.
