hey all, i've recently felt the need to get my tank going again. Right now im stuck with only a 35gallon but figure i have to start somewhere and can eventually upgrade when the time is right. I was wondering what you guys would suggest for this tank, im kinda looking for something that will get me ready to care for other monsters in the future. and yes im obviously looking to start an aggressive tank. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

thanks, looking foward to being a member.

Hey Bleak ! To me a 35 is a grow out tank. None of the tankbusters that i would like to keep can be kept in a 35 long term.

If you are going to replace the 35 in a few mos( to a 75 at least) then your options will open .. i would try any C.American cichlids, Flowerhorns, bichirs and datnoids. Or maybe a small shoal of RBP if youre interested in piranhas.

3-6 african mbuna cichlids

3-4 dwarf ram cichlids

2-5 malawi peacock and/or tanganyikan cichllids/jewel cichlids

3-5 of the smaller gouramie species

2-3 dwarf pike cichlids

10-20 generic community fish (livebearers, tetras, barbs)

10-20 exodons (bucktooth tetras)

a convict cichlid and 2-3 african mbuna

nice p45

i say a planted tank with 10-30 firemouths

Almost any pike cichlid, small monster ambush predators. Marbled sculpin, tiny, 3-4" but ornery as hell they will even bite your fingers.

CICHLIDS

3-4 OB PEACOCK CICHLIDS
------OR--------
1-2 RED STAR FLOWER HORN CICHLIDS
------OR--------
1-2 CALVUS CICHLIDS
------AND-----
3-4 NANOCHROMIS CICHLIDS
------OR--------
3-4 Buffalo Head CichlidS

SUCKERS
1 Royal Farlowella Cat
------AND-----
1 Loricaria Cat
------AND-------
1 Red Lizard Whiptail Plecostomus

MONSTERS

1-3 JUV Banded Leporinus FOR UP TO 3-4 MONTHS

1 AND 1 ONLY ALBINO Cuvier Bichir FOR UP TO 3-4 MONTHS

------FRESHWATERMORAYEEL------

no go. They'll outgrow it in 6 months if you get three of them at 1" long each.

they're also terribly boring, mindless, skittish, impersonable fish compared to cichlids, but if you just have to see it for yourself, go ahead...

Agreed. 6 mos to a year then you would have to upgrade.

Nice list there P45, but not all of those you mentioned are aggressive.
