Getting these guys tomorrow morning if all goes right. Any suggestions for acclimating? I usually let the bag sit for 20 min. then open and pour about a half cup water in their. Keep doing this 3-4 times then net fish out of bag and release them into the tank. Just a FYI, my PH is 8.5, fresh water change today and fish are going into a holding tank for a few days (55 gal). Any thing I'm missing?

Stock list
6 black calvus"zaire"
6 white calvus "Chaitika"
6 fire fin red comp

Any time I get fish that have been in the bag for a while I like to take them out of the bag into a bucket and drip acclimate them. I use a airline with a controll valve on it and start a siphon from the tank into the bucket. once the siphon is started I use the controll valve to slow it to a drip around 15 per minute. I let this go untill the bucket is full then I siphon half the water out of the bucket and do it again. I think that this acclimates the fish far better and is more controlled than the drop the bag in method.

Don't mixing their water with yours, even if it's a holding tank.

Since your PH is real high, I wouldn't drip your water into the shipping bag. Their water is usually closer to 7 and adding higher PH will make the ammonia very toxic.

Here is what has worked for me:

I place the bag in my tank for 20 minutes or more (may need to remove water from the tank for a large bag).

Then open the bag carefully.

Net out a couple of fish and drop them into your QT tank and repeat.

So far I haven't lost a tropheus, comp, front, syno pet, ect. with this method!

18 fish at one time can be a bit of a bio-load strain. If it were me I'd keep a close eye on the water parameters. Test daily - Frequent 20% water changes may be nessasary for the health of the fish and micro-biology.

Thanks for the replies.

fsc46 I think I will try this method. I asked the seller what he keeps his PH at and he sad 8.2-8.5. So I should be ok.

Otherone I forgot to say this tank has been set up for years as a second tank.

I'll post pictures later today. Thanks guys.

Oh wow-great looking fish! It sounds like they're getting along good and you know what you're doing. I love getting fish in the mail. Makes my whole week :-)
Good luck with them.

Here's a tip for water changes...

If you notice they are resting upright and breathing heavy at the bottom, use your net to chase them slowly. Basically, you want to make them move around.
