Hi im new to this site! I am also new to having aquariums and I am getting a 150 gallon tank tomorrow or this weekend. But it does not come with a filter. So I was wondering what would be the best filter to get at a decent price?

What else does it come with? Lights, hood, heater? A 150 gallon is a good amount of work for someone who is new to the hobby. I would recommend a canister filter, something like a fluval or maybe a marineland. The filter is defiantly important so make sure you don't skimp because it will just make your job of doing water changes a lot easier.

Well, your choices are either canister or HOB. Personally, I would go with twin AC110's which are probably going to set you back approx $150 new. As to canisters, the FX-5 or the Ehiem pro 2075 are good choices. The 2075 is a very easy to use filter.

If you are new to the hobby, you have lots to learn, start with how to cycle a tank!!!!!

Good luck, and post some pics when it is set up.

I had a Magnum 350 on my 150...thats it...granted all I had in it was an arowana and a stingray, i rarely did water changes, just cleaned my filter once every 5-6 months...easiest tank ive ever had lol

It comes with hood with lights in it. Dont remember what kind of lights it is. And I have had a 29 gallon tank for about a month and its just not doing it for me. So I desided its time to upgrade and I feel like I found a pretty good deal. I think doing a sump sounds like a good idea for me. Someone said it would be a pretty easy DIY. But not really sure how to go about doing that. But thank you everyone for your input! It really helps!

If u want a good canister filter I would have to agree with going with an fx 5...

I have a Marineland Canister C-530 on my 75 gallon, works great. It's a beast and it comes with lots of filter-media.
