Getting a Armatus Payara

Ok I have decided to get a armatus fish. I am starting it in a 40 gallon tank. Yes, I know that isn't enough, I am going to my 269 gallon. Would that be enough for the fish for its whole lifetime though? I also heard some people have been keeping armatus in 100 gallons.....

The dimensions of my tank (269gallon): Height: 2ft
Width: 3ft
Length: 6ft
 
where are you getting it? Where in canada are you located? i don't think 40 gallons is going to be good for any armatus, no matter how small it is. They are super skittish. I have a 10 inch armatus. When it was 7 inches, I kept it in a 75 gallon tank. It constantly bumped its head against the glass and rubbed the tip of its nose off. I'd suggest a 75 gallon to start. Anything smaller can create some bad problems. Anyways, there is only one MFK guy that said he has one in a 100 gal. He has yet to prove it yet.

You can keep an armatus in a 269 gallon tank for a long time. maybe until it's 2 feet long.

I live in Ontario like you. I haven't decided where to get one yet. Do you maybe know a place I can go? And oh, alright I will start it in a 75gallon then. Thanks
 
I think if you go 8x3x2 that would be better. I have a 16 inch Armatus that loves to stretch his fins out in his 240 8x2x2 tank. I plan on doing his upgrade to 10x3x3 for life this summer.
 
if you already have the 269 then just start him off in that, unless thats occupied by something larger than the Armatus. Either way a 269 will last you a good long while. You'll have plenty of time to plan for the future.
