I'm getting a Rhom tomorrow, and would like to know the water conditions to keep one in. He will be in a 20 gallon tank and hes about 2 inches long max.

I will have an ac 50 and a stealth heater for it and the tank is already completely cycled.

Do they need to be cared for more than rbps and what kind of diet should it be on at its size?

Thanks!!!

you can take care of him the same way you would with natts, they like slightly acidic water, but a higher ph is ok as long as it stays steady, and keep the temp around 80f. as far as feeding, he should eat just about anything at that size, get him on a good quality pellet, shrimp, tilapia, catfish, frozen krill and silversides. stay away from feeders and you should be fine.

what do you mean by acidic?

the lower end of the ph scale is acidic, and the higher end of the ph scale is basic. a ph of 6.0 is a pretty good average for a rhom, but if your ph is a little higher, you shouldn't have any problems as long as you keep it steady, just keep in mind that ammonia is more toxic in the higher ph levels, so you won't wanna leave food to rot in there and cause an ammonia spike.

and at this size, what would be best to feed.
well, i would really try to get him started on pellets as soon as you can, but you can also feed shrimp, tilapia, catfish, and krill to mix things up

when you buy a "rhomb" make sure it's a rhomb. most of the time LFS are mix other serra and ID as a blck piranha or a rhomb. look carefully, if you not sure take a pictures and post it up before you buy it.

other then that i aggreed with JoeD

definitely agree, i have seen an unusually high number of small sanchezis sold as rhoms this spring, not that there's anything wrong with sanchezis, but people usually wanna get what they paid for
