For anyone who lives here in CA and has already been through this... there's something I don't quite understand...

Okay, so I'll turn 18 on 12/07, which is about 3 weeks away, so realistically I could manage to take (and hopefully pass) both my written test and my driving test before I turn 18.

Now, according to the manual, if I pass my written test before I'm 18 I get a provisional license, and then I take the driver's test, and when I turn 18 it automatically stops being provisional. However, it also says I can only drive around between 5AM and 11PM, and with no passengers for an entire year.

However, it says if I take it after I'm 18, I get a learner's permit after passing the written, and when I pass the driving test I get a license. It did not state any limitations on that license.

So, if I wait until after I'm 18 to get my stuff, will I not have the restrictions of no night driving and no passengers, or is it the same either way?

Probably best to just ask at the DMV...you'll get it straight from the horse's mouth...

The horse doesn't wake up on weekends, apparently. Also, it's asleep by the time I get home (I get home at around 5:15 PM).

It is the same either way. Your license becomes unprovisional after a year of driving or when you turn 18. My year is almost up, I got my license on 12/30/08.

So if you get it after your 18 then you can't have any passengers for a year. WTF is that. Your 18, an adult by most states if not all. Maybe I'm not understand this correct.
It's 3 weeks, I would just wait.
