I've been told ropefish like to be in groups, so I have 2 more on order at my LFS (they should be here today.)

Can I put them in with my current ropefish (which has been in the tank for several months)? Will they get along or do I need to move the current ropefish somewhere else for a while so that it doesn't have an established territory?

First I must admit I've never had a ropefish, but I've had sens and my dad had a rope fish he remembers fondly back when he raised tropicals. So, here is some generic advice.

If your worried about your first rope-fish being territorial you can move around the decorations in your tank just before getting your new ones as opposed to moving him out of the tank. Most fish mark territories by landmarks move them and the fish are on even ground. I've used this technique before with success on other fish never personally with polys. I assume it would work with them too - cant think of why it wouldn't. Also feed your rope fish earlier in the day before adding the new ones. If your going to quarantine the new ones feed them as well the day you transfer them to your tank. No reason to make the introductions risky'er by having them hungry. Will your new rope fish(s) be relatively the same size as your first one?

ive got 6 ropes 2gether rite now added them all at diff times no probs very rare 2 have fighting ropes i'd b more worried about disease wit ropes alot come in wit them

Well, the two new ones that my LFS got for me have been in there for a couple weeks now.

They both hang out together in a plant, and the old one stays in his own hiding place behind some driftwood.

I just saw one of the new ones intruding on the old one's hiding place. The old one grabbed it and basically dragged it out.
