I've been trying to cycle this tank for about the whole summer now but NOW I think it is somewhat stable. Currently it is a 20 gallon high tank that houses anacharis, 2 bumblebee gobies, and 2 very tiny MT snails.I can't get a puffer at my favorite fish store right now (Strictly Fish in Lakewood) but I might get one in the next sale. If anyone wants to see photos then I have the link or I could upload them here.

parameters? F8 puffers need brackish water as they get older. check out the puffer pedia there is a ton of good info on pretty much all freshwater, brackish and marine puffers.

puffers will also eat snails so dont expect any sort of friendly co-habitation when keeping the two in the same tank. if the snails breed fast enough, then you should have some in there.

malaysian trumpet snails have really tough shells, puffers have been known to break their beaks on them. if you find a puffer i would remove them.

F8 puffers will need salt in there water. id suggest you grab a box of marine salt and a hydrometer next time you go to the LFS too.

id also suggest that you read up on a few things too. if theres anything you do know, im sorry. im not trying to be patronising, i just want you to get off to a good start. brackish can be annoying sometimes due to the lack of reliable info on the internet.

so anyway you'll wanna check out;
-Specific Gravity (or SG for short)
-What is a hydrometer/how to use one
-Drip aclimatization
-Brackish environments. research here will help you choose compatable fish.

if you have any more questions, dont hesitate to ask.

welcome to the club.

I srsly don't care if the puffer ends up eating the snails. It's all good, baby. :D. I might as well remove them, but would they snails break the beaks even if they're a few mm in length?

I will acclimate the puffer once I get it. I already have some Instant Ocean and a floating hydrometer.

I do know some stuff on F8 puffers, but it's cool.

happy days :)

looks like your almost ready to go then... minus the star of the show.

i cant say if the snails you have will break the beak of the puffer you get. a bigger puffer obviously has a stronger beak than a smaller one. so it will all depend on the size of the specimen you get.

prevention is the best cure though. if it was my tank id rather get shut of the snails, rather than find out later if they cause any damage.

Since the tank only has bb gobies that I feed every other day right now, someone named zaffy on AC recommended that I test frequently for ammonia. If there is ammonia in there it would probably get cleaned up by the plants. If you go to AC and check out the thread titled "So I'm going to get a puffer fish" you can read more there and see the pictures. But yeah, I could get the fish in a week at the soonest.
