i had a previous thread on what big cichlid i could keep in a 50 gallon tank and i've gone for a green terror as my wife has given me the ok to get a bigger tank but this won't be until probably xmas time.
i would like to get a male if possible my problem is my LFS has green terrors but they are only small about 1.5 inches so are probably impossible to sex, i did pick one of the only ones that had orange colour on the dorsal and tail fins but none of them looked to have a pointed dorsal fin.
what i am thinking is do you think it would be a good idea to get another one or two to increase my chances of getting a male but this would mean keeping them in the 50 gallon for gallon for nearly a year, there are no other fish in the tank other than a bristlenose plec.
also would i be able to sex them for sure in that time scale. :D

in one year? It will be easy. Get 3 or 4 and let the dominant shine.

what do you think my chances are of being able to sex them in that time.

To be honest... I'm not too sure. To my knowledge, and I'm not 100%, but I don't think you can sex GT's at 1.5". Males will have more of the burnt orange on their fins, will start to develop a hump on their head and I think will show more green/blue color. Not sure what size though. All of mine have been males, however they were also about 3.5" too. I would buy 3-4 of them and enjoy... after so long you will start to see what I described above. I hope this helps out.

cool thanks, i will get another 3 i think and see how it goes :)
gt's are some of the easiest fish to sex just look for the one with the orange tail and more color females will have no color at this size
