Hi Currently on a 2'x1'x1' tank, but am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new tank in a weeks time. Currently all i have is the stand and tank, wondering if people can suggest gravel, filter, lights etc for the tank.

At the moment i've got a eel tail catfish, 3 angels, 2 silver dollars, 1 big bristlnose catfish, 2 silver sharks, 2 white rainbow sharks, about 10 tiger barbs, 2 golden tiger barbs, 5 neons, a swordtail, 2 mollies, 2 sucker catfish, a spiny eel, 4 golden snails, a clown loach, about 10 or so Guppies, and 5 decent sized gouramis. (crowded i know, got too excited at the fish shop, hence the bigger tank)

Any responses in regards to this would be greatly appreciated!

Silver dollars and tiger barbs will eventually, probably sooner than later, rip your angels' fins to shreds. Your spiny eel will grow big enough to seat some of your smaller fish and will at night when they are resting. By silver sharks, I'm assuming bala sharks which will get very large. They might cause a problem with smaller fish. Two rainbow sharks will likely fight as they get larger. Your clown loach needs company. Most loaches should be kept in groups of 3 minimum as they are very social. What type of gouramis?

8x2.5x2 is better..
long propotional to wide and height..
they will be some rascal ..probably dat silver dollar..:FIREdevil
keep watchin'

wanted bigger tank, but this one is going to take up heaps of room in the kitchen as it is

Have been wanting to get some more clown loaches, but the tank is crowded! Waiting for the new tank next week, by the sound of things i'm gonna have to keep the smaller fish in the smaller tank. One of the rainbow sharks (they're both white with red fins) already hassles the other as it is bigger. The Silver Sharks (or Bala - pretty sure your right) are o.k with the other fish, one is about 11cm currently and the other maybe 6cm. The angels fins look o.k currently, mainly having problems with the guppies nipping at other fish, the bala sharks have a few scales missing. Will try and get photos of the Gourami's on in the next couple of days. Do you have any suggestions/advice on setting the new 8' tank up though? I've never had a tank this big and unsure how to go about things.

By the way, I don't have a sump for this tank. Have been trying to source a Undergravel Filter to suit but having no luck, if anyone knows of somewhere i can source this once again greatly appreciated! Also thinking of running a Canister filter on the tank but once again not sure what brand/size i should be going for. But SOMEONE please offer me some advice so i don't go getting things that are just going to set me back. As i said currently just about to get ONLY the tank and stand, so i really need some advice on set up!!!

We have a 240 (8x2x2) as well. I have 4 E400 HOB units equiped with supercartrages for bio-filtration along with an FX5 canister for mechanical/biological filtration. For added bio-capicity and safety I have two stacked Hydro5 air driven sponge filters in each corner. Crystal clear water...huge bio-capacity...perfect water peramitors
0 ammonia
0 Nitrite
5 Nitrate
185 ppm TDS

Today is water test day so those are as of this morning.

O.k, you may have already figured this but just in case, it will be a tropical set up. Fairly new to this game so things like "E400 HOB units" leave me fairly confused. I'm assuming it's some sort of pump/filter but once again being new to this these terms confuse me. If possible could you advise maybe Brand/model types. But thanks for the reply.

OOps...sorry about that. E400 is my pet name for the Emporer 400 Hang on back filter by Marineland. A supercartrage is a seperate product that takes the place of the factory cartrage/media holder and add's a lot of biological capacity and has two cleanable pads rather than the factory ones you have to replace.
The FX5 is a huge canister filter and the hydro5's are air driven sponge filters. all of them can be looked up on google or even on Ebay.
