Here is the deal. I was offered a 90g tank from a guy at work for $100, it comes with wood stand, matching wood hood and I believe he is including his metal halides ans some other stuff. This is no doubt a good deal. I can fit one more tank in my house but I dont think I want to waste it on a 90.

I want to build one but it would be so massive my wife would freak the hell out.

So I am thinking of going out an buying a tank today. Up for consideration is a 120g, 125g and a 180g.

The 120g is basically a 90 but 6 inches wider cost is @ $700
The 125g is the cheapest but I like that it is 6ft cost is @ $570
The 180g is what I want but the cost is @ $1100

To me the DOUBLE the cost of the 125 vs the 180 is not very justified.

The costs include tank, lights and stand.

I already have a new Eheim 2217 and a new AC110 under a stand and a couple spare heaters. (I always have tons of spare stuff). I will need to buy some more filtration but knowing that I have 3/4 of it already is nice.

The problem is I want a tank NOW, the 90g tank I would have to wait 2 weeks till the guy I work with moves. It is an outstanding deal but to me a 90 is too small for what I want to do.

OK now its up to you MFK to persuade me in my decision. I can afford all of them, no prob. I want to do the 180g but logic is telling me it is not worth 2x the cost of the 125.

What say you?

Do you want brand new or would you be interested in used?

How far are you from Cherokee IA?

There's a 180 there you can probobly snag WITH filtration for under $800.

If you score this 180 you willing to hook me up with that 90?

Yea I saw that one on Craigslist. I doubt the take Visa though :)

The if I dont take the 90 I think he said he will turn it into a sump. I will ask him though.

don't forget to consider the 150 size (from Aqueon)

it is 72x18x29 tall. like a 125 on steroids.

The only thing I don't like about tall tanks is once over 25 inches it get hard to reach the bottom. And I am 6'2". I am more interested in surface area over depth. There are none that size available to purchase right now were I am. In fact I have to drive 60 miles for the 125.

A is $550 on glasscages.com
135 is $300
120 is the same price

shipping is pretty expensive though

Yes the shipping on glasscages rules it out. To ship a 180 or a 240....I was quoted prices equal to the price of the tank.

I would definitely go with the 180 so that you probably won't have to upgrade in the future. The 2 foot width would be appreciated by all fish. Also don't forget about my personal favorite, the 150 5x2x2.

I have been down the same road. I would go with the 125. They are a good all around tank and the price on them is good as well. Your filteration would be adequate as well, as long as you didn't overstock it. I would definately rule out the 120. 120 is a great tank, but they are too expensive for what you get. I would get the 90g and the 125. GL
