Thoughts, comments...

I wanted to wait until my son was not so fragile. He's starting to sit up now and isnt a wrinkly little bobble head anymore. :)

I am looking a getting a Pembroke Welsh Corgi this weekend. (a puppy)

Any tips. I have never actually OWNED a dog before. I worked at a Veterinary clinic for 4 years. I've had cats, fish, horses, hamsters and birds. But never a dog.

I think i must have watched every episode of the dog whisperer to make sure I had some knowledge before getting a dog.

But any insight and recommendations would help.
Any good tips on potty training?

corgi's are very cool dogs lol mummy has one ( the queen ) well 6

potty training is fun! .....1 thing is buy a cage! put its bed in it and lock it in at night and newspaper down or puppy pads...and teach the dog to wee by using a code word like wee wee and point so they know that thats what you want to happen haha my dog pee's on command! :D

teething is gonna be your worst thang...buy lots of hide sticks! and toys :D teach the dog from an early age to not to rag toys...because if your baby has a toy the dog wants and you've taught him ( by playing ) to rag the toy thats not fun lol :D

i seriously want another dog! i need pics when you get it!

i'm getting too friggin excited now. lol

Yes, good idea. No rag toys. oooh and i think my mother in law has a smaller dog crate in her garage.

ok. thanks

i never had a cage when i first got a dog i seriously will next time just for a month or so until its trained....potty training shouldn't take long at all corgi's can be a bit stubborn tho...so show who's boss

you can also get some spray that makes them want to wee lol

No problem there. I can be a hard ass. But a loving hard ass. lol

I'll be the alpha dog.

I say for potty training take him out after he drinks and eat, even if it isn't much, and like every hour or sooner if you see him sniffing like he is going to pee. While he is out side say "go potty" and just keep saying it till he does and when he does praise him a lot. Don't really need the puppy pads unless you wont be around him for a long period of time. I'm not much of a cage training person, I prefer to get a doggie bed and set it in one spot and that will be is bed.

I don't know how corgis are with potty training, but my huskies always knew after a day or so what to do.

Get some chew toys that don't look like your babies toys. Have his own little "box" or something with his toys and show him those are his. Also bones are great. I wouldn't get the dark ones, they tend to stain stuff. Unless he is outside with it or something.

Other then that you shouldn't have a problem. Those are tiny dogs, so you really don't hav eto worry about him trampling your baby like a larger dog.

my grandma has a corgi...they are snappy dogs and i think a cage is suitable because at night time...my mum is super house proud if my dog did anything on the carpet i would get shouted at thats why i needed a cage.

go potty sounds better than my "wee wee" haha you could create your own saying haha..

i needed puppy pads because i was out for a few hours a day at school so it was needed and i can say 100% my dog has never accident on carpet or chewed anything he should in 4 years so i think i did good.

haha actually i'd get puppy pads and a cage now....what i used was a wallpaper pasting table sectiond off in a corner and newspaper hahahahha

i'd do it different second time round!

ok. Good info.

Maybe it will get me ready to potty train the boy later on. :D

Luckily if he does have an accident, most of the house is tile and easy to clean.

I'll try a mix of both methods. I'll take him outside when he starts sniffing and after eating and drinking. And if i need to leave the house for a few hours, i'll use the crate to avoid any catastrophes.

(dont worry i wont be one of those people that dooms him to a life in solitary)
I'm an at home mom now.
So this is the first time ever, that i feel i'm ready for a dog since i can give it a lot of time.
