Hi, im getting a Silver Aro after a week. I have some questions.

Im gonna feed it on shrimp's and beefheart, is that ok?

I will have it in my 55g with my small P. Senegalus until i can put it in the 100g, for how long could i house it (4") in a 55g?

How many times should i feed it?

Should i have floating plants or just some other plants that reach the top of the tank as a hiding place?

How many times are waterchanges needed?

Will post some more questions if i have too.

Need answers quick.

Shrimp and beefheart is ok but I would get it on pellets.

Overall It isnt really a good idea to keep aros under the foot mark with tankmates, but im not sure about a senegalus. I would only keep the aro in the 55 till its a foot, other wise you might stunn it.

How many times should i feed it?
2-3.

Should i have floating plants or just some other plants that reach the top of the tank as a hiding place?
I didnt use floating plants when I kept my silver. I guess you could if you wanted to.

How many times are waterchanges needed?
once a week, 25%.

GL with the silver:D

Properly the aro should stay in the 55 gal until around the 7 to 8 inch mark and be moved to a large tank...

Feeding should be between 2 to 3 times daily until the around the above mentioned size-IMO
Shrimp is agreat diet-But a varied diet is better-The more the merrier..Stuff like freeze dried krill, raw seafood, pellets, aro sticks, etc, etc would all be great to get it onto...

Make sure to secure your lid-they are powerful jumpers.....Plants(floating) could be used-But i wouldn't recomend them...(More places for floating foods to get caught up in)...
The more water changes you can give it the better....Continous drip system would be best-IMO

I hope you got plans for a fish that can reach 3 foot in length-It will require a huge tank-or a pond in the long run-FYI

I know everything about Silvers sizes and things like that, just wanted a confirm on some thing's.

I would vary it a little more than that.

They grow about 1" per month, so in 4 months it could be 8". That is the max I would let it get in a 55gallon since they aren't very deep at all. Also note the 100g will only buy you another few months, depending on the dimensions. They will need at least 180g but even bigger would be better.

How many times should i feed it?

3 x a day seems to be common with the younger ones.

Should i have floating plants or just some other plants that reach the top of the tank as a hiding place?

It seems either will work from my reading. Some people have none but I am not a fan of empty tanks.

How many times are waterchanges needed?

2-4x per month is pretty common. Some people do 10% others do 20-50%. It all depends on how good your filters work and what the parameters look like. Also how big your tanks are could also play a factor.

So will feed it shrimp, krill, beffheart, bloodworms 3x a day until 8".
Ill keep it in the tank until 8" then move it too the 100g.
Will have regular (non floating) plants for hiding places.
Waterchanges 25% weekly also 50%each 2 month's.
That's sounds ok.

the tank would be good for atmost 7 months.. after that, move it in a bigger tank.. as suggested above at around 240g.. the point is, get a tanks that's atleast 7feet long.. train it with pellets.. the most safest and balanced diet that is.. and it reduces the percentage of your silver getting a DE.. in some theories they say.. but atleast pellets contain less fat.. if not, none at all.. lol.. feed it 3x a day and waterchange should be atleast once a week..

I know that, the 100g is just a short-time tank. Will be moved too a 180 or a 240g

Hi, im getting a Silver Aro after a week. I have some questions.

Sure it's okay, but crickets that have just eaten baby carrots before serving is the best for they contain high% of protein and they're low in fat+ they also improve the colorations of the arowana because of the baby carrots, but at that stage, beefheart and shrimps can be good, but better if it eats pellets :D

I will have it in my 55g with my small P. Senegalus until i can put it in the 100g, for how long could i house it (4") in a 55g?

Until it gets to a foot or a foot 'n a half, but some say that the minimum tank for this monsters is 300 gal and a 400-450 is good for only 1 because these monsters grow up to 4-5 feet.

How many times should i feed it?

2-3, but I haven't heard of any arowana die from overeating.

Should i have floating plants or just some other plants that reach the top of the tank as a hiding place?

At that stage, yes, to reduce the stress level of the fish since it's still only a baby.

How many times are waterchanges needed?

Depends on his tank mates.I change mine 75% a week since mine has a gar tankmate which produces a lot of waste and really needs a 75% W/C since the waste really fouls the water.

Will post some more questions if i have too.
