I am thinking of getting a small 4-5 inch silver from a lfs. I have a few questions.

1. I have heard that silvers are the least aggressive arowana. Is that true in general?
2. Is a 210 big enough? (72 x 24 x 29)
3. I have large convicts (5-6 inches) in the tank. If the arowana does not eat live feeders is there a possibility he will never see the cons as food when he grows, or should I just count on them as future feeders?
4. Finally, will it work with the following fish: Oscars, JD, Frontosa, Severums, Tin Foil Barbs, Cuban, and pike cichlid?

Thanks, I want to research thouroughly before I get such a large fish.

1. I think blacks are least aggro, but my silver demonstrates 0 aggressiveness, even though it is 14" and it lives with 3.5" fish. Never eaten a live fish before (although this might not last much longer :D)
2. Should last for a long time. Liz (red devil) has a 29" aro in a 180g, although you should probably strive for an 8'x2' tank for the guture
3. Look at anwser #1. IMO, a 2' aro will eventually try to eat a 6" convict
4. yes to all the fish, although frontosa and severum might get beaten up in that tank

Are you saying the arowana would beat up the sev or frontosa? They are already peacefully co-existing with the other fish.

A silver that small likely will not do well with the cichlids, go for a silver at least 2x the size of the silver. Silver aros are large predatory fish, no matter what there is always a chance of them feeding on smaller fish. My two large silvers have always been with small fish I have had very few loses though.

A 72" x 24" tank is too small to house a silver for life, but would do for 3-4 years.

3. the convicts might pose a problem for the aro when it's that small and will eventually be food. I wouldn't put the cons in w/ that aro.
4. in the long run, if those fish are big enough to not get eaten and the silver is past the sensitive stage, they will probably do ok w/ the silver.

I agree w/ Brian on what he said.

I have decided to pass for now.
