Soo, I've decided after looking at jessica snake pictures I want one. Parents dont like snakes or reptiles for that matter, but guess what they dont have to see it so w/e.

I dont want something thats gona get over 4feet. and dont want something thats gona get so round I need to hands to control him, dont want something thats gona be agro either, that i can lay in my bed with and watch him slither around. want something thats attractive to look at to, not like a normal pattern of a python or boa.

I love the look of pythons and boas, buttt they get way to big for me.

I dont mind feeding mice, but will get it onto dead when i can see its fat and healthy.

What would you all suggest?

ooo, and trust me, I will do my research before purchasing it.

Childrens or spotted, pythons only get about 4 feet, and are super friendly. I also have a Guyana Rainbow boa, which is about 3 1/2 feet long.

beautifuls snake, I've been told by a friend childrens pythons are a pretty good beginner snake, so I'll start doing some research on them.

Rally's been looking at this thread for like 5 mins, i feel i'm about to get either flamed, or some good info :D

you could try a AFRICAN ROCK PYTHON just kidding.

You should start with a ball or something,or maybe a king snake.

um, on average they get 5 feet, but have been known to get up to 6 feet

...

Alright, do your research here. Males and females get to be different sizes. Also, just because it is small, it doesn't means it is a good pet.

First off, if you are planning to hide it from your parents, they WILL find out about it eventually. If you live on your own, then that is a different matter with landlords.

Female Spotted Pythons usually only max out about 5', and female Children's Python usually around 3' feet. These two are the most commonly avaliable of the Antaresia genus. A reasonably pure female Irian Jaya Carpet Python will also max out at 5'. Some boa constrictors are naturally small too, but you have to pick your breeder carefully... there is a lot of integrades and mixed localities out there.

If you want colubrids, there is the African House Snake that make good captives. They are usually between 2' to 5', but I haven't owned one yet so... I can't really help you out there. Some Pituophis are thick, but the only max out around 4'-5'. I forget which species and subspecies get to be this small. However some of them have a tendency to hiss and rattle their tail a lot, but they almost ALWAYS bluff.

Why the size restriction anyway? When you start handling snakes, you realize 6' is not even that big and relatively small. :p

I didn't know you are 80 years old! I means wow, an adult is still living with his mom while I, a "kid," is living on his own. Don't take it seriously LC, I am just jousting ya here.

Plus, everyone always seem to focus on the maximum size rather than focusing on the sexual dimorphism in snakes.
