I wanna get a red snakehead ,but how big of a tank would one need

depends a lot on the exact species, at least 30 gallons for only a pair of the smaller ones

a red as in a redline snakehead? a 30 gallon will last you about 3.5 months. you need more like a 300 gal for a redline. That will last them for years but maybe not for life.

hi,
a minimum of 6ft but preferably bigger.

its not only length but width with theese guys and they need lots of room i havent did a lot of research but have had some freinds keep theese guys..... i believe they got about 4 1/2 feet long and will pound anything in the tank

oh, i totally misread your post, sorry! if you want to keep a single fish in a huge tank, go for the red...and 300 gallons would be only for the first 1-2 years.

a 4 1/2 foot red would be a modern day record breaker even in the wild , another case of exageration of reds , plus of all the larger channa they are the most likely to accept tank mates ,

a three foot wide tank will probably last for life , go for a 8x3 or larger and you will be fine
